FILIPINO CARBOHYDRATE COUNTING TOOL

Filipinos are at an increased risk for developing diabetes, and this nutrition education tool has been developed to assist both healthcare practitioners and consumers in effective meal planning. Carbohydrate counting commonly known as “carb counting” is a practical and flexible strategy for managing blood glucose levels. By tracking daily carbohydrate intake, individuals can better regulate their blood sugar without adhering to a restrictive diet. The book comprises of a comprehensive list of traditional Filipino foods and sample meal plans.

In an effort to address the healthcare needs of multicultural populations, this nutrition education tool is the second in a series of carbohydrate counting resources, following the tool developed for South Asians. This resource is the result of over five years of dedicated work and collaboration. It would not have been possible without the invaluable support of my students, colleagues, and community members.

The Carbohydrate Counting: Traditional Filipino Food Lists for Management and Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus is a free resource, and the tool is available to the public. It can be accessed here: Filipino Carbohydrate Counting Tool

Please feel free to use and share it widely with anyone who may benefit. When distributing the tool, kindly ensure proper credit is given to the authors.
